An excellent stereo line recording, Though incomplete and compromised by some
clipped sets, this is a remarkable listen. Slow Train, Walk Around Heaven All
Day, and Saving Grace are clipped.
The Library Patron that donated the tape wrote: "This tape has a "you are there"
presence I have rarely heard. The alleged history of this tape is fascinating.
It is a line recording but was not recorded by someone working for Dylan or a
Dylan enthusuiast. The taper is a sound collector --someone who goes around
recording sounds--any kind of sounds. He was driving around in his van and
came across a marquee advertising "Bob Dylan". He was curious enough to take
his recording equipment into the concert. The story is, that he walked right
in while the concert was in progress and plugged right into the board. Being
an expert on theses matters he knew just what to do. He pulled his connection
anytime he felt someone was watching him which explains the abrupt cuts. Also,
he didn't stay for the whole concert. Everything he recorded is here. This
was told to me when I acquired this tape some ten years ago. I don't know if
the story behind this tape is true, but it is certainly plausable. The
separation (Dylan is on the right channel) is reminiscent of the basement
tapes and the slight hiss shouldn't detractfrom the enjoyment."
Though I'm not particularly enthusiastic about soundboards (most are a tad too
sterile for my taste), this tape is a gem. Thanks yet again, Robert! 60 min.
